Personalized Service with Technical Excellence

Since our inception in 2000, our clients rely upon our knowledge and experience conducting Environmental Site Assessments to make informed business decisions. Our projects range from vacant lots to industrial complexes with multiple contaminants and waste streams. Founder and senior geologist, Kristen Burgess, conducts thorough reviews that often reveal hidden risks and liabilities associated with the subject property. Our accurate collection and evaluation of data allows us to focus our Phase II ESA's and remediations efficiently and cost effectively. This attention to detail is also applied to ESA Associates' successful Fee-to-Trust Acquisitions for Tribal Nations.

Founder and Senior Geologist

Kristen Burgess graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1989 with a degree in Geology. She began her career in petroleum exploration. However, her true desire was to understand the impacts of industrial processes on soil and groundwater and ultimately human health and the environment.

In 1990, Kristen moved to the Pacific Northwest to focus on Environmental Consulting.  Kristen worked with large environmental consulting firms from 1990 to 2000 where she managed and implemented investigations in subsurafec soils and groundwater.

Our Goal

Maintain strong client relationships, provide practical consulting services, and manage our client's risk objectives under the direction of qualified professionals.

Projects involved various engineering, geologic, hydrogeologic, and environmental problems. With a desire to forge meaningful relationships with her clients and realistic budgets for their projects, ESA Associates was launched. Starting with one client and one project, the company has grown by referral to many clients and has handled hundreds of projects over the years.

Kristen has also devoted several years to sharing her research on how industrial chemicals have travelled through the food chain and impacted the Southern Resident Orcas of the Pacific Northwest.
